Mkenya Daima Initiative
Every five years, Kenya goes through the electoral process to put in place its political leadership, including the Presidency to govern the Country. Drawing lessons from the National Dialogue and Reconciliation process in 2008, the private sector resolved to be proactive around electoral seasons, through various interventions under Mkenya Daima, working with other sectors of the society, with a primary purpose of inspiring peaceful elections and a peaceful transition.
Mkenya Daima, started in 2012, is a non-partisan Multi-stakeholder platform with the primary purpose of inspiring peaceful elections and a peaceful transition. The initiative is inspired by the private sector but it is for all Kenyans with a steering team made up of representatives of the Business community, Civil society, Religious communities, Media, Youth and Women leaders.
Kenya in the last decade has undertaken initiatives to improve governance including, the development of an inclusive and progressive new Constitution (2010); adoption and institutionalization of devolved governments in the 47 counties; increased community involvement through county development plans; improved use of IT systems within government, but despite these gains the country has continued to battle increased levels of corruption and insufficient service delivery in some sectors.
To help Kenyans achieve their aspirations of a better future and strive for a country that has good governance and leadership, public accountability and efficient and transparent systems, as well as create hope, confidence and optimism among Kenyans, there is a need to:
