In response to the 2022 drought, KEPSA Foundation launched the Rapid Response Initiative, dubbed ‘Pamoja Tuungane,’ to raise resources for providing emergency assistance to vulnerable populations. This initiative mobilized resources collectively into one account, with distribution managed centrally. From April to October 2022, the initiative raised in-kind donations valued at Kes 344,132,209 and cash donations worth Kes 203,206,548, including Kes 3.3 million from the Rotary Club District 9212. These funds were used to provide relief to vulnerable populations in the ASAL counties through water infrastructure repairs and food distribution.
In 2023, KEPSA Foundation with support from Dow Chemicals and ChildFund, collaborating with Embu County leadership to bolster resilience amid ongoing drought challenges. This partnership provided food and cash assistance to over 600 residents of Makima Ward, including the sick, people with disabilities, and the elderly, addressing the community’s needs due to a failed rainy season and insufficient harvests. Further discussions with the Embu County Government aim to explore additional partnerships in county-private sector engagements, promoting peace and national values through the Mkenya Daima program, enhancing women’s leadership and entrepreneurship, supporting climate and drought resilience programs, and involving youth in these initiative
